Actions Taken by the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors met recently in Orlando in conjunction with the Air Warfare Symposium and Central Florida’s Gala which
was the 24th year for these events. Several information briefings were presented, most notably: an Air Force Senior Leader
Update by General Bruce Carlson, Commander AFMC; a Congressional Air Force Caucus Update by Congressman Jim Marshall (Georgia,
6th District); and a Political/Military Update by General (ret) Richard B. Myers, former Chairman JCS. Additionally, Vice
Chairmen Sutter and Schlitt presented updates on progress in field operations and aerospace education, respectively, and
President/CEO Dunn presented his assessment of the past six months of AFA as well as a comprehensive President’s Report
covering operations of AFA, AFAVBA, and AFMF, which was distributed to all Board members. Treasurer Lundgren presented
preliminary financial data for 2007 that shows a net operating loss, although total net worth still shows a positive gain.
He also noted that the budget for 2008 predicts a slight operating loss and that the budget has been approved by both Finance
and Executive Committees. Executive Vice President Marrs informed the Board that the group exemption request to include all
chapters under 501(c)(3) status is still awaiting action by IRS headquarters, despite the fact that the initial case worker
submitted the request over a year ago with recommendation for approval. Finally, the Audit, Constitution, Development,
Membership, and Strategic Planning Committee Chairs provided reports on their progress this year.
Significant actions taken by the Board include: approval of the 2008 operating budget; approval of a proposal to expand and
revitalize Eaker Institute; approval of a change to Emeritus Director policy allowing waiver of the ten-year national service
requirement, but making six years of service on the Board mandatory; approval of four members for Emeritus Director status
(Boyd Anderson, Bill Croom, Dave Cummock, and Tom Kemp); and approval of an increase to the credit limit and renegotiation of
the financing to cover the building expansion and tenant interior construction.
